The Gateway Membership Team (GMT) is a smaller, elected group of residents who take on more regular involvement. Members attend at least six in‑person meetings each year, review performance, scrutinise feedback and services, and provide a direct link to our Board to ensure customer voices are heard.

The GMT is separate from the Board and acts as an independent resident voice. Members provide an important balance by asking questions, challenging decisions when needed, and helping to make sure we are always doing the right thing for our customers.

As we become a new Community Gateway Housing Association, we're recruiting 5 members to join the Gateway Membership Team.

If you care about your community and want to play an active part in helping us continue to improve and grow, we’d love to hear from you.

To help, we're working with Tpas - The Tenant Engagement Experts - who are an independent national organisation with more than 30 years’ experience. Tpas will be supporting the recruitment as an independent adviser to ensure that the process is fair and transparent.

If you have further questions about the role, recruitment or just want to understand whether this is the right opportunity for you, email Tpas  on merger-consultation@tpas.org.uk. Tpas will be monitoring this inbox Monday to Friday throughout the recruitment period and will respond within 2 working days.

What are the benefits of being a member of the GMT?

Being part of the Gateway Membership Team is a rewarding opportunity that offers a range of personal, community and developmental benefits. As a GMT member, you will:

  • Be recognised for your contribution through annual remuneration of £2,500, reflecting the time, commitment and responsibility involved in representing residents and supporting organisational decision making
  • Make a real difference by influencing decisions that affect thousands of residents, ensuring the tenant voice shapes services and priorities
  • Build new skills and confidence, including communication, leadership, teamwork, scrutiny and problem solving. Many members find the experience boosts their personal and professional development
  • Work collaboratively with the leadership team, the Group Board and fellow residents to help shape strategies, policies and services
  • Take part in meaningful activities, such as scrutiny reviews, performance discussions, community projects, and resident focused events.
  • Receive full training, induction and ongoing support, including optional mentoring from Tpas to help you feel confident and well equipped in the role.
What level of commitment is involved?

To help you decide whether the GMT is right for you, here’s what the time commitment typically looks like:

  • Six GMT meetings a year, which can be held in person or virtually depending on WCH arrangements. Papers are provided at least five working days before each meeting so you have time to prepare.
  • Occasional involvement in scrutiny reviews, which take place twice a year and focus on services or areas of low satisfaction. These reviews are planned so members can check availability
  • Participation in resident events and community activities, such as membership meetings, local events, or Tenant Question Time sessions (optional but encouraged)
  • Reading and preparation time, including reviewing performance information and feedback to help inform discussions at meetings
  • Training, induction and mentoring sessions, arranged flexibly around your availability

Most members find the role manageable alongside work, caring respnsibilities or other commitments.

How to apply?

Applying is simple, and we welcome residents from all backgrounds. You do not need previous experience — enthusiasm and a commitment to improving services for your community are what matter most.

Here’s how to apply:

1. Complete a short expression of interest form by 11th May 2026: This will ask for your contact details and a brief explanation of why you’d like to join the GMT and what you feel you can contribute.

Express your interest here

2. Take part in a light‑touch interview w/c 25th May 2026:
If more residents apply than there are places, you’ll be invited to a short, friendly interview with the GMT Chair/Vice‑Chair and a member of the Governance team. This helps us understand your motivation and ensure a good mix of voices on the team.

3. Election (if required):
If the number of eligible candidates is greater than the number of vacancies, you will be included in the GMT election. Members will receive information about all candidates to help them make an informed choice.

4. Appointment and induction 17th June:
Successful candidates will be appointed and begin as co‑optees until the next AGM, where their positions will be formally ratified. You will then receive training, induction and support to help you get started.
