Watford families enjoy a festive cash boost for a thriving Christmas

Christmas came early for three families in and around Watford when they scooped cash prizes in their landlord’s tenant reward scheme.

Watford-based housing association Thrive Homes runs an annual prize draw for its residents, with a top prize of £1,000 and two runner-up prizes of £500.

Trudy and Thomas Hedgan, were this year’s lucky winners. A delighted Trudy said: “It certainly came out of the blue and, at this time of year, it’s a pleasant surprise.”

Josephine Choyce, was one of the runners-up. She said: “It’s a lovely surprise – I was speechless when I received the call. It’s perfect timing for Christmas. The reward scheme is a great idea – it’s nice to know I’m a good tenant!”

Kelly Marshall, was also a runner-up. She said: “I’m ecstatic – me and my children will have a fantastic Christmas now! I am totally thrilled; I’ve never won anything in my life before – it still feels surreal.”

Tenants who keep up-to-date with their rent and fully observe their tenancy agreement are all entered into the draw each year. Thrive is pleased to recognise the positive efforts some people make through this scheme and other initiatives.

Elspeth Mackenzie, Chief Executive of Thrive Homes, said: “We value our customers and run the reward scheme as a thank you to those who keep their side of the deal between tenant and landlord. We hope that they and their families enjoy their reward and have a very happy Christmas.

The prize draw is one of a number of schemes Thrive runs to reward tenants such as the £200 cash back it gives people who clear and clean their home when they move out, which means the property can be re-let more quickly to a new resident in need of an affordable place to live.
