Promise fulfilled: new laundry for sheltered schemeWhen Thrive Homes transferred from Three Rivers District Council, in March 2008, each sheltered scheme was promised £10,000 to spend on their scheme, how they wished. Harrogate Court in South Oxhey decided to spend all their money on a communal Laundry Room rather than residents relying on family, friends and the local laundrette. The new Laundry was officially opened in May by Elspeth Mackenzie, and to mark the occasion we adopted a hedgehog from local animal rescue centre Tiggywinkles. We decided to adopt a hedgehog because in the famous Beatrix Potter books there was a character called Mrs Tiggywinkle who did the laundry for the other animals. Residents from Harrogate Court enjoyed the occasion and were full of praise for their scheme manager Tina Pearson, positive about the transfer to Thrive Homes, and very pleased with the new laundry. |
